This is an exciting role in which the successful candidate will be involved with developing new ideas and designs which will lead to new and improved photonic devices. As a member of the R&D team the role requires being able to translate future system requirements into optical device specifications, including both RF and optical aspects. The job holder would be expected to have a deep understanding of high speed optical communications technology and trends (e.g. 100GbE and beyond), and how they are currently utilised within the industry, and a good knowledge of the underlying technologies. The role requires an individual who can contribute to the identification, generation and evaluation of candidate technical solutions by working closely with device designers and project teams and be able to contribute to ensuring these projects are delivered to agreed cost and time restraints. As the job holder will be required to liaise with project teams across the organisation excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also required.
BSc in physics or relevant engineering field;Record of publications in the technical field;Recognised standing in the relevant technology community;
Knowledge of, and skilled in use of, design techniques and simulation tools. DesirablePhD in a relevant physics or engineering field;
Good understanding of capabilities of optical device technologies, especially semiconductor optoelectronics device;
A good appreciation of industry requirements for new optical device technologies; Project management skills.
Able to work calmly under pressure and to tight deadlines;
Proactive and innovative team player who is also capable of working independently;
Displays a positive approach to working and actively seeks to share ideas and information with colleagues;
Able to demonstrate attention to detail;
Good communication and interpersonal skills which show an understanding of the varying levels and cultures within the organisation;
