Imec reports four per cent growth for 2013 fiscal year end

23 April 2014

Nanoelectronics research center Imec has reported a four per cent growth in revenue for the fiscal year 2013. This is believed to be due to increases in collaboration with international partners and funding from European schemes.

The €332 million figure includes the revenue generated through industrial commitment from international partners, collaborations with universities worldwide and funds from European research initiatives, a yearly grant from the Flemish government totalling €48.6 million, and a €4.6 million grant from the Dutch government to support the Holst Centre.

‘This year Imec has succeeded in attracting more research partnerships, while continuing to foster existing relationships,’ said Luc Van den hove, president and CEO at Imec. ‘Several new collaborations in the domain of healthcare with leading organisations including Janssen Pharmaceutica, Johns Hopkins University, TEL, Pacific Biosciences, Panasonic, JSR, and BioTelemetry underscore the world-class research we offer to this market.

‘Furthermore, this past year we intensified our partnership with ASML, reflecting our efforts to strengthen our collaboration with the leading suppliers of the IC industry,’ Van den hove continued. ‘These suppliers are vital contributors to our innovation hub, and increased interactions between IC manufacturers and suppliers will be essential to implement the next steps in innovation and scaling. Imec, as a neutral R&D organisation offering the deep expertise, IP sharing models and talent, will continue to foster closer interactions at earlier stages in process development.’

In 2013, Imec’s talent base amounted to 2,086 people, representing 71 nationalities. Of these, 383 were industrial residents and 289 were Ph.D. researchers. ‘Our achievements in all our areas of focus are the sum of the dedication, passion and talent of all our employees, leveraged with our strategic research partnerships,’ added Van den hove.
