Edmund Optics has launched its 2014 Education Award. One of the finalists will also be presented with the Norman Edmund Inspiration Award which has a prize worth $5,000 in Edmund Optics product donations. All 45 2014 Educational Award finalists will be considered for this honour and have an opportunity of receiving this recognition.
The award was created in 2012 after the passing of the company’s founder, Norman Edmund, to celebrate the contributions he made to advance the science of optics.
‘We are very excited to open up this opportunity to all the finalists of the 2014 Education Award programme. There are so many research projects worthy of this recognition,’ said Kirsten Bjork-Jones, director of global marketing communications. ‘This award has grown beyond inspiring the next generation's interest in optics and science to include research programmes which work to make the world a better place.’
The Norman Edmund Inspiration Award is given to the optics programme that best embodies the legacy of Norman Edmund, and will be selected at the sole discretion of the Edmund Optics Board of Directors Committee. The 45 finalists of the 2014 Education Award Grant will be asked for additional information by the committee - how their project embodies Norman Edmund's goals and inspires others to do similar types of research.
Applications for the 2014 Educational Award are due by 30 June and can be submitted through the company's website. The 45 finalists will be notified on 17 September and the Gold, Silver, and Bronze award recipients will be announced on 15 October. The recipient of the Norman Edmund Inspiration Award will subsequently be announced on 5 November.
