Plastic optics manufacturer verifies coatings with new spectrophotometer

G-S Plastic Optics (GSPO) has announced that it has upgraded its metrology laboratory with the addition of a PerkinElmer Lambda 950 spectrophotometer. GSPO aims to continually improve its core competencies of creating high precision polymer optics. The company states that the purchase of the spectrophotometer will enable it to meet its growing programme demands.

GSPO is in the market of producing polymer optics with low stress, dense, durable coatings that will satisfy the most demanding thin-film requirements. Their on-site coating chamber configuration also includes a unique, flexible rotation system to accommodate the many complex shapes that are increasingly prevalent in plastic optics design.

Recognising the importance of being able to document the performance of an optical coating, GSPO has invested in the PerkinElmer Lambda 950 system to ensure that they are supplying the highest quality coatings possible. The Lambda 950 is a high performance UV/Vis/NIR spectrophotometer capable of making transmission, reflection and absorption measurements across a spectral range of 190 to 3,300nm.

Will Beich, director of new business development at GSPO, said: 'We went with PerkinElmer because their spectrophotometers are recognised as being the industry standard. Many of our new programmes have performance demands beyond the spectral range normally associated with thermopolymers. Lambda 950 is the perfect choice for the new work that is coming on line at GSPO.'
