Terahertz pulsed imaging checks tablets

Terahertz pulsed imaging has been used to research the layer separation of pharmaceutical tablets.

Layer separation is important for quality control, and providing a precise estimate of the layer separation risk and robust quality of bilayer tablet development is how to ensure consistently good products.

Because terahertz pulsed imaging is non-destructive, tablets can be re-examined later in the production process to monitor coating stability or functional studies that examine coating uniformity. This imaging can be used as a characterisation tool for film coatings.

Takeda Pharmaceutical Company carried out the work using Teraview's terahertz pulsed imaging Imaga 2000 system.
