Based on atomic emission spectroscopy for the analysis of the constituents and their concentrations of samples, the LIBS has been applied in diverse and extensive fields, such as material analysis, environmental monitoring, biomedicine, industrial production control,botany and so on. We considered if the LIBS technique could be used in food detection field. In this chapter, a new approach to identification of Escherichia coli (E.coli) in sausages by means of Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy is proposed. We identify E.coli in sausage by observing and analyzing the spectral line of sausage, Escherichia coli and sausage charged with E.coli. The results showed the samples were identified obviously by comparing the spectral intensity and varieties of trace mineral elements.

For the purpose of space exploration and aircraft technologies, researchers have explored travelling at hypersonic speeds, which entails attaining speeds over Mach 5, more than five times the speed of sound. This puts a huge strain on the aerodynamic and thermal designs of vessels and components. To test components and their capability to withstand airflows at such velocities, the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom have combined their hypersonic wind tunnel with a thermal imaging camera from FLIR Systems.
