Flawless Photonics is revolutionising optical fibre technology through the development of ZBLAN (Zr, Ba, La, Al, Na fluorides) fibre. As CTO, Michael Vestel played a key role in a recent significant milestone for the company, successfully drawing 11.8km of ZBLAN fibre on the International Space Station (ISS), 500 times more than any other preformer.

He says this groundbreaking achievement highlights the unique benefits of drawing fibre in microgravity, leading to superior fibre quality and reduced attenuation.
