LZH emphasises engineering with two new board members

The curators of the Laser Zentrum Hannover (LZH) have expanded the institutes's board of directors. Professor Ludger Overmeyer, head of the Institute of Transport and Automation Technology at the Leibniz Universität Hannover (LUH), and Professor Volker Wesling, head of the Institute for Welding Technology and Separation Processes at the TU Clausthal are the new board members.

Through the appointment of both new board members, the LZH's curators hope to emphasise the importance of the institute as a partner in the Network of the Lower Saxony Technical Universities (NTH). Simultaneously, the engineering side of the research at the LZH is being strengthened through the two industry-experienced board members.

Professor Overmeyer has a PhD in mechanical engineering and is said to be very familiar with the LZH. He was staff member and department head at the LZH from 1991 until 1997, when he started working for industrial companies. Since 2002, Professor Overmeyer has been head of his institute at the Leibniz Universität Hannover.

Professor Wesling studied in Clausthal where he also received his PhD. After working in the mechanical engineering industry for nine years, for example for the former Mannesmann group, he was appointed to a professorship at the TU Clausthal in 2002. Since September, 2009, he has also been the vice president of the university.
