Optical debris shields for AWE's Project Orion laser

The UK's Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) has selected Armstrong Optical and Sydor Optics to supply optical debris shields for its Project Orion high-energy laser facility.

Project Orion is a world-class laser facility for the creation and study of hot dense matter. It is the successor to the HELEN laser (High Energy Laser Embodying Neodymium), which is now more than 25 years old and reaching the end of its technically useful life.
