Power Technology's US factories benefit from Thai flooding

Laser manufacturer Power Technology is expanding its laser diode production capacity in the USA, following Thailand's disastrous flooding.

Laser diode module contract manufacturers based in Bangkok, Thailand, have been flooded and are unable to produce anything, as some 650,000 workers have been displaced. The situation is expected to remain unchanged for many weeks.

Walter Burgess, Power Technology sales and engineering vice president, said: 'If [users] are using contract manufacturers [and] are unsure of where lasers are being manufactured, call us.'

Power Technology's expansion plans include taking on more experienced design engineers and production personnel. Laser diode inventories at Power Technology are also being increased. The company's laser diodes have wavelengths from 263nm to 13,900nm, spanning the ultraviolet, blue, green, red and infrared range.
