Bora miniature hexapod

Symetrie has introduced its Bora miniature hexapod precision positioning system. The Bora hexapod is 157mm tall, and can position a 10kg payload with a 0.1µm resolution within a travel range of 30mm (translational) and 20° (rotational). The device's 10N/μm stiffness ensures stability and guarantees positioning quality over time.

The Bora’s features make it suitable for the most demanding optical applications, and its dimensions enable integration in a limited space, for example on top of a goniometer on synchrotron beamlines. The hexapod is supplied with a controller and easy to use software developed by the company.

A hexapod, the company says, offers six degrees of freedom and several advantages compared to stacking stages: the setting is more intuitive and faster, there is higher accuracy due to non-cumulative joint error, higher payload to weight ratio since the payload is supported by several legs in parallel, and a higher structural rigidity.
