LightTools, available from Synopsys, is a 3D optical engineering and design software product that supports virtual prototyping, simulation, optimisation, and photorealistic renderings of illumination applications. Its unique design and analysis capabilities, combined with ease of use, support for rapid design iterations, and automatic design optimisation, help to speed delivery of illumination designs.
The software features interactive point-and-shoot ray tracing for immediate conceptual feedback, as well as fully-integrated optimisation to automatically improve any aspect of a design. Other features include: source libraries, example models, and application-specific utilities; an interactive, dynamic link with SolidWorks; a full suite of illumination simulation and analysis tools; photometric reports made in standard IES formats; forward and backward Monte Carlo ray trace capabilities; modelling of source spectra and colorimetric performance; and photorealistic rendering for modelling lit appearance.
