JenLab has developed a medically approved flexible Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Scattering (CARS) system. The laser tomography system, MPTflex CARS, is suitable for imaging the skin and provides optical sections without tissue removal. Staining of the skin is not necessary.
Individual cells, cell organelles, fibrous tissue, lipids and water can be imaged with sub-micron resolution and chemical information can be shown.
In vivo multiphoton tomography is a promising method for early cancer detection, therapy optimisation and evaluation of pharmaceutical and cosmetic products under physiological conditions. It can determine the aging index, the distribution of fat and the effectiveness of anti-aging products.
The CARS tomograph is currently used at the Charité in Berlin for the detection of chemotherapeutic agents in cancer patients.
