Coherent has expanded its Obis family of plug-and-play laser modules with fibre-pigtailed (FP) options at several wavelengths, including 405nm, 488nm and 640nm.
Obis FP lasers are offered with 1m of single-mode, polarisation preserving fibre, terminating in a standard FC/APC connector for OEM instrument integration. The new Obis FP lasers also offer low noise and can be directly modulated.
The Obis FP lasers achieve low noise and output stability because it has an output beam with low beam drift to maintain efficient coupling and it uses a telecom-type architecture to yield drift-free opto-mechanical coupling. Obis FP lasers also deliver longer lifetimes because they address the main cause of failure in lasers coupled to single mode fibres, namely facet damage due to the high power density at the fibre facets. Obis FP lasers use a proprietary design securing a four times longer lifetime than conventional fibre designs, which is important for shorter wavelengths such as 405nm.
