10,000-fold efficiency increase from Aalto’s million-cycle chip armour

Demonstrating an aluminium-shielded nanofabrication process that produces van der Waals (vdW) microresonators with Q factors above one million, a team from Aalto University says the method strengthens light confinement and provides a boost in nonlinear conversion efficiency up to 10,000 times that of previous records.
