As Senior Optical Scientist at Microsoft Research, Ariel Gomez Diaz’s current work is confidential, though he can disclose that his broad goal is to apply cutting-edge optics to develop future AI infrastructure as well as to foster energy-efficient ways to store and transmit data within data centres. 

He says his research has the potential to revolutionise the archival storage landscape as well as the way AI architecture is realised. Previously, Dr Gomez Diaz was one of the main researchers, turned optical lead, in what is publicly known as Project Silica.
