A German funded network of laser process research centres in Russia has expanded its network to include the country’s Kirov region.
The Vyatka Laser Innovation Technology Center in the Kirov region aims to help research institutes and regional businesses, including small and medium sized enterprises, by providing feasibility studies, process integration and training and education for technicians and managers. Surface treatment and powder deposition welding will be centre specialisms.
‘A convincing strategy for consultation must be oriented to the needs of industry,’ said Klaus Nowitzki, head of the project at German research institute Laser Zentrum Hannover. ‘The range of services provided by the network of Russian-German laser centres will be correspondingly supplemented by the thematic and technological upgrade being offered.’
The Vyatka centre also has a 3D laser processing station from the company Trumpf. This allows the centre to perform testing and to offer courses on laser cutting and welding. This network, which was created in 2008, has centres in Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Kaluga, Rostov, Saint Petersburg, and now Vyatka. The Kaluga centre will be equipped with a laser processing station from Jenoptik.
