Opto Diode Corporation (Newbury Park, California), a member of the ITW Photonics group, has acquired International Radiation Detectors (IRD, based in Torrance, California), a company which designs and manufactures semiconductor devices that detect UV and X-ray photons as well as other high energy particles. According to Opto Diode, IRD's technology complements its capabilities as a global supplier of advanced performance photodiodes and reliable visible and IR LEDs. All IRD operations are to be moved and incorporated into Opto Diode’s domestic facility in Newbury Park.

'We are extremely pleased to announce this acquisition and we look forward to offering the IRD brand radiation detectors for the measurement of visible, ultraviolet, extreme ultraviolet (XUV, also known as EUV), and soft X-ray photons,' said Russ Dahl, general manager of Opto Diode. 'We are also happy to announce that the founder of International Radiation Detectors, Raj Korde, and his associate, Dejan Jovanovic, are joining Opto Diode as full time members of our team. This will ensure seamless continuity of operations and shipments of all IRD brand products.'

Opto Diode now offers all IRD products, including advanced, long-operational-life photodiodes available with extremely high quantum efficiency and radiation hardness. Opto Diode’s IRD products are the only NIST-approved product line available for silicon photodiode transfer standards in the 5nm to 250nm spectral region.
