Photonic crystal demand to see 400 per cent growth by 2017

Photonic crystals will witness an upswing in industry interest across several domains and applications, according to research.

Taking note of the rapid changes in the prospects of photonic crystal components over 2011 and 2012, BCC Research conducted a review of the topic through its report, Global Markets and Technologies for Photonic Crystals.

The report says the global market for components and modules using photonic crystals was worth $3.5 billion in 2011 and $4.8 billion in 2012. The study anticipates the total market value will reach nearly $20.4 billion in 2017, increasing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 33.1% between 2012 and 2017.
