Synopsys buys RSoft for undisclosed sum

Imaging and illumination product designer Synopsys has announced that it has acquired photonics design and simulation software company RSoft Design.

The acquisition is another step into the optics market by California-based Synosys. Synosys entered the market in 2010 with its acquisition of Optical Research Associates. RSoft’s software is used to design and optimise optical telecommunications components, as well as in the design and simulation of complete optical telecommunication systems and networks.

‘The addition of RSoft’s products expands Synopsys’ solutions in both the optical and adjacent photonic markets,’ said Howard Ko, senior vice president and general manager of Synopsys’ silicon engineering group. How much RSoft was bought for has not been disclosed.

Ko and his management team expect RSoft’s photonics design products to extend Synopsys’ platform for a more complete set of optical solutions to current customers, as well as to support new technologies, applications and markets as they emerge.
