EverGreen 266nm laser

Quantel Laser, a leader in the design and manufacture of high-power, solid-state lasers for Scientific, Industrial, Military and Medical applications, today announced the release of the EverGreen 266 nm laser designed for combined PIV and LIF experiments.

The EverGreen, a staple of Quantel’s compact and rugged “Big Sky Laser” product line, was first introduced in 2010 and quickly became the laser of choice for Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV). This extension to the popular product line enables users to image in the UV, facilitating precise measurements of velocity and density fields for certain combustion experiments difficult to accurately measure with traditional techniques.

Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) is an imaging technique used to study flow in aerodynamics and fluid mechanics. It utilizes lasers to measure velocity fields by taking two images very close together in time and calculating flow by observing particle movement within the velocity field. PIV is typically performed with pulsed nanosecond 532 nm lasers such as Quantel’s EverGreen and Twins product lines. However, researchers are increasingly looking at different, more subtle effects that are best imaged via UV excitation since organic molecules in the flow have broad absorption around 266 nm and emit in the visible allowing the use of standard PIV cameras
