Intelligent coating system

Evatec is introducing what it describes as 'intelligent' coating systems, to enable demanding optical coatings to be produced reliably and at viable costs.

The company's coating system will now be able to check the optical performance of the coating stack against the theoretical performance after each layer is deposited, and automatically adjust the remaining process layers.

This process is designed to correct even very small errors to ensure the overall optical performance of the final stack matches the original design. Production tolerances should be tighter and yields improved, resulting in cheaper production costs for complex coatings while making new processes more viable.

The system uses broadband optical monitoring combined with proprietary software, and can be run on Evatec’s BAK Evaporator or MSP Sputter platforms.
