Lambda SX

Coherent has introduced a higher-power version of its Lambda SX class of high pulse energy lasers at 308nm. Targeted at high-throughput manufacturing applications, the Lambda SX 540C delivers both high pulse energy (up to 0.9J) and a high pulse repetition rate (up to 600Hz) - twice that of earlier models.

The laser incorporates the advantages of the existing Lambda SX class with several important innovations. It provides actively stabilised performance at pulse energies between 700 and 900mJ, allowing the laser output and operating costs to be optimised for specific applications. Other important features include: a burst mode with PowerLok for high-power applications; an all solid state power supply for high reliability; and an external resonator design for maximum beam stability. In addition, TimeLok technology ensures accurate triggering and time jitter reduction.

An enhanced software interface included with this higher power version provides improved real time control, greater ease of use, implementation of remote diagnostics and optimised maintenance scheduling.

The Lambda SX series delivers low-cost power for a wide range of demanding, high-duty cycle, industrial processing tasks, including high throughput micromachining and surface treatment of a variety of plastics and glass materials, structuring of transparent conductive oxides (e.g. ITO, ZnO), direct patterning of thin metal films on flexible plastic substrates, thin film annealing, and reel-to-reel Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD).
