Rethinking spectroscopy software: see beyond limits

Spectroscopy hardware has advanced significantly over the past decades. Detectors have become faster and more sensitive, optical benches more stable, and integration into industrial systems has become more common. Yet in many cases, the software layer has evolved incrementally rather than structurally. As functionality grows, complexity often increases alongside it.

Avantes addressed this challenge by rethinking its spectroscopy software from the ground up. The result is AvaSoftX, the next generation of Avantes spectroscopy software, developed based on structured user research and practical workflow analysis.

Structured around practical spectroscopy workflows

As spectroscopy software evolves, functionality expands. Over time, this can lead to increasingly complex navigation and configuration, especially when advanced tools are embedded within broader technical menus.

AvaSoftX addresses this by reorganising functionality around how spectroscopy is performed in practice. The software supports the complete workflow, including instrument control, data acquisition, monitoring and data analysis, within a clearer structure. Existing and new functionalities are arranged to be easier to find and easier to use in daily operation.

Measurements are grouped within dedicated mini apps, each designed to support a specific type of task. Instead of navigating through layered technical menus, users work within focused environments that align configuration, visualisation and analysis.

Guided workflows and onboarding support

AvaSoftX introduces predefined mini apps supported by step-by-step wizards and integrated instruction videos. These elements guide users through the measurement process, helping to reduce manual configuration and setup errors.

This structure supports faster onboarding of new users while maintaining full access to configuration settings when required. Routine measurements can be performed with greater consistency, and more complex tasks remain accessible within the same environment.

Extended analytical tools

Within the LIBS mini app, a periodic table feature has been added to support element identification. Peaks associated with specific elements are displayed automatically, improving clarity during elemental analysis.

In the Chemometry mini app, users can now add multiple components at once. Library creation and management are structured more efficiently, supporting both routine and more advanced analytical workflows.

These updates improve how analytical tools are accessed and applied, without altering the underlying measurement logic that users rely on.

Scripting in Time Series

AvaSoftX expands scripting capabilities within the Time Series mini app through improved Python support. This enables automation of workflows, monitoring of custom variables and adaptation of the software to specific application requirements.

For users who require automation or customisation, this provides flexibility while remaining within the structured AvaSoftX environment.

Designed for low-light working conditions

Many spectroscopy applications are performed in dark rooms or low-light environments. AvaSoftX introduces a dark user interface designed to reduce ambient light that may interfere with measurements.
The interface reduces visual fatigue during extended sessions and supports comfortable long-term use in real working environments. The design serves a practical purpose by minimising light disturbance during sensitive measurements.

Built-in documentation

Manuals and help content have been integrated directly into the software and reorganised for easier access. Users can consult relevant documentation without leaving their workflow, improving efficiency during setup and troubleshooting.

Enabling focus where it matters

As spectroscopy continues to move beyond isolated measurements toward integrated, application-driven environments, the role of software becomes increasingly central. With AvaSoftX, Avantes reinforces its commitment to delivering not only precise hardware, but a software platform that supports clarity, efficiency and confidence in every measurement. By aligning structure with real-world workflows, AvaSoftX is designed to help users focus less on operating software and more on advancing their application.
