Applied Optics Center acquired by Optex

Optical coatings and assemblies company, Applied Optics Center (AOC), has been acquired by Optex Systems Holdings (Richardson, Texas), a manufacturer of optical sighting systems and assemblies primarily for the US Department of Defence (DoD) applications.

With the acquisition, AOC will play a role in Optex Systems’ expansion, providing new Optex products to the commercial sector.

AOC is formerly a division of L-3 Communications’ Warrior Systems Sector based in Dallas, Texas. Billy Bates, Optex – AOC general manager, commented: ‘Applied Optics Center is an excellent fit with Optex with our similar customer base in the defence business,’ adding that the acquisition will also allow a transition from L-3 Communications as an internal customer to L-3 Communications as an external customer.

Optex chairman, Merrick Okamoto, commented: ‘Our corporate focus continues to be on merger and acquisition opportunities to take advantage of our under-utilised capacity and low-cost manufacturing during this cycle of lower defence spending. We are excited this acquisition will provide new growth opportunities and a new commercial optical coating vertical which will reduce our dependence on defence-related contracts.’
