Carlos Lee wins photonics innovation award

Carlos Lee, director general of the European Photonics Industry Consortium (EPIC), has been awarded the PNO Photonics Innovation Award, a first-time prize set up to support the photonics community. The award was presented during the international Photonics Event 2015 which took place on 3-4 June in Veldhoven, The Netherlands.

PNO Consultants, Europe’s largest independent public funding advisory, shortlisted five candidates for the award, based on their recent achievements in supporting innovation in the photonics industry.

PNO’s customers voted for Lee based on his consistent efforts in promoting the photonics sector and organising events that benefit the photonics community.

‘It’s a great honour to be recognised by Europe’s leading grant advisory firm with a focus on photonics. Connecting companies, promoting innovation, building partnerships, is the core business of EPIC,’ said Carlos Lee upon receiving the award.

One of EPIC's recent events was the European Photonics Venture Forum, which took place on the 16 April in Rome, Italy. It was organised with an aim to market the photonics sector to a wider investor community and create channels to finance for high-potential photonics businesses. There were 110 participants from 15 countries at the event, with 24 pitches, 30 investors, 45 one-on-one meetings.

As winner of the innovation award, Lee has received 3,000 worth of professional consultancy to be used for any of the innovation services provided by PNO.
