Electronic Metalwork Services installs Trumpf TruLaser 1030 laser

To meet the needs of its customer East Anglian, Electronic Metalwork Services (EMS) has invested in a fibre laser for thin sheet laser cutting.

EMS is a one-stop-shop for finished sheet metal components. Rather than upgrade to a newer version of the company’s existing CO2 laser, the fibre laser was chosen for its productivity in cutting sub-5mm thick metal sheets. With the greater productivity EMS was able to end its reliance on other subcontractors for ferrous and non-ferrous thin sheet cutting. The fibre laser’s compact footprint also overcame shop floor space constraints.

‘The lower electricity consumption is also a very attractive feature. Indeed, despite upgrading from a 1.5kW to a 2kW laser, we will not be using any more electricity,’ explained Julian Long, EMS director. The fibre laser was installed at EMS’ Mildenhall, Suffolk factory in August. The machine is a Trumpf TruLaser 1030 fibre-guided solid state laser. The machine at EMS is the first TruLaser 1030 to be installed in the UK.
