Gooch and Housego appoints product manager

Gooch and Housego has appointed Abdel Ezbiri as product manager for the group's Precision Optics portfolio.

The Precision Optics portfolio is made up of high quality products, including flat optics, optical prisms, lenses, birefringent optics, waveplate retarders, polarisation rotators and polarisation controlling prisms, glass engineering, and assembly and coating capabilities.

Abdel, who will be based at the company's headquarters in Ilminster, UK, held the position of product marketing manager for Solartron Metrology since 2003. Abdel joined Solartron Metrology in 1999 as a senior research and development engineer to work on the development of a range of linear encoders operating on the principles of diffraction gratings interference.

After gaining his BSc in Physics, Abdel obtained a PhD in Optical Fibre Sensor Technology at Cranfield University in 1996. This was followed by postdoctoral work at King’s College London and a period at Protodel International developing optical fibre strain and temperature sensors. He holds an MA in Strategic Marketing Management.

In July, Gooch and Housego announced the acquisition of General Optics, a global technology leader in super-polished optics, and a volume manufacturer of ultra-high quality optical components and coatings to the aerospace and defence sector.
