Gooch and Housego reports boom in fibre module business

Gooch and Housego has reported significant new orders in its fibre module business in the first month of 2012, spread across markets such as sensing, avionics, telecoms, industrial and biomedical.

Paul Ellis, senior vice president, commented: 'January has proven to be a great month for our modules business. Our UK (Torquay) facility received orders in excess of $2m. The majority of the business consists of repeat orders and it is very pleasing to see that all our major market sectors are included. However, the green light has also been given to a number of new projects in which we are providing design and prototyping services – their success helps maintain future growth.'

Gooch and Housego’s fibre optics capabilities have been strengthened recently by the acquisition of EM4 (Boston, USA), a specialist manufacturer of active fibre optic components such as transmission diodes, pump diodes and fibre-coupled detectors. Gooch and Housego has a multi-disciplinary fibre optics team able to offer a complete fibre module design, manufacture and qualification capability, drawing on the experience of more than 10 years of supplying fibre optic modules into diverse application areas including satellites, biomedical imaging, fibre laser, telecommunications and sensing.
