Hamamatsu to build laser irradiation facility

Hamamatsu Photonics has begun construction on a laser irradiation facility to promote applied research into the 100-joule class diode-pumped solid-state laser (DPSSL). It is expected to be completed by October 2014.

The facility will be built on reclaimed land adjacent to the research building at the company’s Industrial Research and Development Center, which is where efforts are based to develop high-power (several joule-class) high-repetition DPSSL's for laser nuclear fusion-based power generation.
