Knight Optical increases metrology laboratory capabilities

Scientific optical components maker Knight Optical has increased the capabilities of its metrology laboratory with the installation of a Trioptics Optispheric with a Wavesensor Reflex attachment.

Knight Optical’s metrology laboratory is now able to test all lens parameters including focal length, back focal length, modulation transfer function, radius of curvature and flange length. The Trioptics Optispheric’s motorised V-Block accessory also allows Knight Optical to test centration errors in transmission and reflection to less than one micron.

Colin Overton is Knight Optical’s managing director. He stated: ‘Over the last few years we have made a high six figure investment in our metrology laboratory and this is the latest instrument we have added to allow us to better meet our customers quality and tolerance specifications.’

Overton’s company provides a large range of precision optical components, opto-mechanics and sub-assemblies to custom requirements, for scientific instrumentation. It also holds a large stock of over 2,500 standard components available to purchase through its website.
