Knight Optical installs advanced metrology equipment

Knight Optical of Harrietsham, UK, has extended its optical component metrology capacity with the purchase of the Agilent Cary Universal Measurement Accessory (UMA) Spectrophotometer. The Cary UMA is used to measure transmission, absolute reflection and scattering of optical components at angles of incident over a 360 degree range, without the need to move the sample.

Knight Optical supplies stock and custom precision optical components to international customers for diverse applications across wide ranging industries.

‘We were very keen to have the UMA in our metrology laboratory – measuring absolute reflection is a key aspect of our testing that clients’ demand,’ explained Colin Overton, managing director of Knight Optical. ‘This innovative new technology makes it so simple to get the precise results we need, even for multilayer optical coatings and multi-angle testing.’

The equipment is so simple to use that no manipulation of the optic is required yet it delivers the most rigorous of quality control testing.
