Laser Munich to feature photovoltaics focus

The organisers of the upcoming Laser World of Photonics conference and exhibition (Munich, May 2011) have announced that the trade fair will emphasise the key role of optical technologies in coping with social and ecological challenges. Particular focus will be given to the ways in which optoelectronic systems are being used to an increasing extent in the manufacture of photovoltaic modules, helping to increase production efficiency. Laser technology, the organisers say, is proving its superiority in processes within photovoltaic manufacturing such as material removal, fusion, soldering, welding and drilling, in which lasers have become indispensable tools. The area of photovoltaics manufacturing will be included as part of the show's Green Photonics topic from May 23 to 26, 2011.

The World of Photonics Congress from May 22 to 26, 2011 will accompany the trade fair with both scientific contributions and practical talks on the latest applications. The program will also include conferences and events on material processing topics such as the 'Lasers in Manufacturing' Conference (LIM 2011), which is being organised by the German Scientific Laser Society, the WLT.
