New optical engineering services firm ASE Optics Europe launched

New optical engineering services firm ASE Optics Europe has been announced by US firm ASE Optics and its parent company Rochester Precision Optics (RPO), to strengthen the company’s presence and service to European customers.

Based in Barcelona, Spain, ASE Optics Europe will provide optical engineering and design for technology companies in the medical device, biotechnology, industrial and automotive markets. It will be able to carry out lens design, lens assembly design and engineering, prototyping, and small volume lenses and assemblies. ASE Optics management expects Europe to face a dramatic and growing shortage of optical engineers and so the company will provide its expertise to meet this gap.

Christopher Cotton, ASE Optics general manager, said: ‘ASE Optics provides optical engineering support for companies who can’t find, can’t afford, or can’t justify having an optical engineer on staff. Our customers’ teams are typically overburdened or short on the specialty knowledge to get optimum performance from a system.’

Like ASE Optics, the European office will offer a Discovery Service, which is 20 hours of engineering for €1,950. ASE Optics Europe will be led by Andres Cifuentes, european sales and engineering director in Barcelona. Cifuentes is the former manager of SECPhO, the Southern European Cluster in Photonics and Optics, and has worked as the lead optical engineer for technology companies for the last ten years. ASE Optics was acquired by RPO in 2011.
