Newport appoints former Securities and Exchange Commission chairman to board

Newport has announced that Christopher Cox has joined the company's board of directors.

Cox is a partner in the international law firm Bingham McCutchen and prior to that served from August 2005 to January 2009 as the 28th chairman of the US government’s Securities and Exchange Commission.

Newport’s chairman of the board Kenneth Potashner said: ’We are extremely pleased that Chris Cox has joined Newport's board of directors. He brings a wealth of experience in international business, capital markets and corporate governance matters, and has extensive knowledge of the global defence and security industry.'

Cox was elected to the House of Representatives in 1988 for California’s 48th district in Orange County. While a Congressman he served as chairman of the committee on homeland security following the 11 September 2001 attacks and was chairman of the select committee on the US national security and military, commercial concerns with the People's Republic of China.
