PI extends piezo ceramics facility to meet global demand

Motion control specialist PI (Physik Instrumente) and its piezo ceramics specialist division PI Ceramic have announced plans to extend their piezo ceramics factory and R&D centre for a third time. The company will invest $13m into the Thuringia, Germany-based facility over the next three years. After adding 50 new PI Ceramic employees in 2010, the company is approachihng getting close to its output capacity. PI Ceramic owning sufficient land for an extension, and the company expects to hire another 20-30 people during 2011 to keep up with global demand for its piezo ceramic components and subassemblies.
