Point Source wins Queen's Award for Enterprise

Point Source, a member of the Qioptiq Group, has been awarded the Queen's Award for Enterprise in recognition of its achievements in international trade. The company increased its overseas revenues by 86 per cent in three years leading up to the award and sold an impressive £33m of exports in that time.

Instrumentation based on Point Source technology is a fundamental enabler in ground breaking scientific projects including research on the NASA space shuttle, mapping of the human genome and the development of personalised medicine.

It is the second time that Point Source has won this accolade: In 2002 the company was awarded The Queen's Award for Enterprise, in both the International Trade and Innovation categories.

Managing Director David Pointer, who started the company in 1991 and has presided over 18 years of continuous controlled growth, says: 'Our business strategy is based on three critical success factors: innovation, investment and export. This, and the dedication of the whole team here at Point Source, have led to this achievement. I am very proud – we all are - to have won this award.'

Interestingly, Point Source has achieved these high overseas revenues almost entirely through direct sales from its UK headquarters and satellite sales office in Singapore. Japan is the only country in which Point Source works with a distributor.
