Qioptiq appoints new CEO

Qioptiq has appointed David Marks as the new chief executive officer of the company. Fredrik Arp, who joined Qioptiq as chairman and chief executive officer at the beginning of January 2010, will henceforth serve as the company's executive chairman.

Marks has been active in the optics business for many years, most recently as the head of Qioptiq's Defence and Aerospace Division since its creation in 2005. Prior to that, Marks was managing director of the company's St Asaph facility since 2003, and served as managing director of the company's Singapore facility for an additional three years before that. Under the leadership of Marks, the Defence and Aerospace Division experienced compound annual growth rates of more than 10 per cent in both sales and profitability between 2005 and 2010. The company notes that Marks is a well-qualified business leader who will devote his energies and talents to ensuring Qioptiq’s continued success and growth over the coming years.

At the Defence and Aerospace Division, Marks will be succeeded by Mr Steve Shaw. Shaw, who has been the director of operations at the St Asaph facility since 2003, joined Qioptiq in 2001 as manufacturing director.
