Rofin-Sinar posts record quarterly results

Rofin-Sinar Technologies has released record quarterly financial results on the back of strong demand for the company's laser products from the consumer electronics industry, where they are used in applications such as cutting, welding, marking, micro-drilling and micro-structuring.

In the October to December 2010 period, sales of lasers for marking and micro-applications rose by 72 per cent (representing 53 per cent of total sales), while sales of laser products for macro applications increased by 24 per cent (accounting for 37 per cent of total sales). Component sales also increased in the period by 43 per cent (to represent 10 per cent of total sales). These results exceeded Rofin-Sinar’s original forecasts for the period. The company attributes the quarter's success to stability within the North American market, a strengthening of European markets, increased sales to the Asian market, and a higher demand from the majority of the industries which they serve.
