Saint-Gobain acquires laser optics manufacturer

Alpine Research Optics (ARO) has been acquired by Saint-Gobain Crystals, part of the $52bn Saint-Gobain organisation. Details of the acquisition have not been announced.

ARO produces laser optics such as mirrors, polarisers and partial reflectors. It will fit alongside Saint-Gobain Crystals’ other units, which manufacture laser crystals, sapphire, UV-grade fused silica, MgF2 and CaF2.

'Saint-Gobain has spent the last several years building a world class operation covering a diverse range of optical materials,' said Peter Tibbetts, general manager, Saint-Gobain Photonics. 'ARO can now leverage this expertise and offer finished coated components based on Saint-Gobain crystalline materials.'
