Schott and Reo form strategic partnership in optics

Schott Advanced Optics and Research Electro-Optics (REO) are now strategic partners, to provide a single source for a broad array of coated precision optical components including lenses, prisms, and windows.

Schott Advanced Optics will cooperate with Reo in North America, Germany, Switzerland, Scandinavia, Belgium, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. The two companies see themselves as complimentary. Schott can manufacture and develop optical glasses and materials, while Reo has fabrication and thin-film coating expertise. Combined, both partners can now produce visible, infrared and laser components, filters, and other novel products.

‘By combining our strengths, we are able to bring to market ready-to-use optical components and assemblies that fit customers’ specifications and needs,’ said Ed Yousse, vice president of sales and marketing at Reo. Peter Kruell is Schott Advanced Optics’ sales and marketing director for Europe, Middle East and Africa, and he said: ‘In Reo we have found a cooperation partner who strengthens our capabilities in finishing optical components.’

Kruell’s Schott already operates in 35 countries, is based in Mainz, Germany and is owned by the Carl Zeiss Foundation. Reo is based in Boulder, Colorado, and serves medium to high volume OEMs including manufacturers of defence, aerospace, and laser systems.
