SPIE announces 2011 officers

SPIE has announced its officers for 2011, following the election results revealed at its annual general meeting on 3 August in San Diego. Katarina Svanberg of Lund University will be president of SPIE from 1 January 2011. Svanberg is professor of oncology and chief physician in oncology at Lund University, Sweden.

Eustace Dereniak, a professor at the College of Optical Sciences at the University of Arizona, is to be president-elect. William Arnold, chief scientists and vice president of the Technology Development Center at ASML USA, is vice president, while Brian Lula, president and CE of PI (Physik Instrumente) will serve as secretary/treasurer.

The newly-elected society directors, who will serve three-year terms for 2011-2013, are: Peter Hartmann, director of market and customer relations for advanced optics, Schott; Joseph Howard, optical engineer, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center; Lisa Tsufura, marketing manager/product manager, CVI Melles Griot; and Toyohiko Yatagai, professor, Utsunomiya University.
