Vytran, a supplier of fibre fusion splicing, assembly and fibre-based glass processing solutions, has hired Jim Tracey as sales engineer for North America. Tracey will primarily focus on developing Vytran's business in the sensing, medical and research markets.

'Jim Tracey has more than 20 years of experience working in the laser industry,' said Jean-Michel Pelaprat, Vytran president and CEO. 'He has held technical, engineering and sales positions with prominent photonics companies and has extensive knowledge of our market segments. We're very pleased to welcome him to the Vytran team.'

Prior to joining Vytran, Tracey was the North American business development manager for Newport Corporation's Spectra-Physics Semiconductor Laser Group, responsible for defence and aerospace, solid-state pumping, and direct-diode materials processing markets. Tracey has also worked as a fibre laser engineer at SDL and a laser engineer at Spectra-Physics' Laser Products Division.
