Ultrafast lasers

Femtosecond lasers are used where measurements need to be taken in extremely short time intervals or with very high output power. The emitted light ranges from the visible into the short wavelength IR region. The shorter wavelengths are used in micromachining and optical communications, while the longer wavelengths are suited to biomedical imaging and techniques. Laser Support Services offers the full range of Del Mar Photonics products.

The Trestles Ti:Sapphire series covers 700-960nm and is tuneable with pulse duration 20-100fs, output power (800nm) of 150-1500mW and repetition rate 93-100MHz. The Mavericks Cr:Forsterite laser has pulse duration less than 65fs for wavelengths 1230-1270nm, output power 180-250mW and repetition rate 75/100/125MHz.

A smaller low cost alternative to the conventional crystal based systems is the Buccaneer Er-doped Fibre Laser. At wavelength 1560±10nm, it has pulse duration 150-300fs, average power greater than 100mW, and fixed repetition rate 60/70/80MHz.
