Aravind V K Jalajakumari
CTO of Singular Photonics
Dr. Aravind V N Jalajakumari holds MSc and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering and Electronics from the University of Edinburgh, awarded in 2011 and 2018 respectively. Dr. Jalajakumari is a co-founder and the Chief Technology Officer of Singular Photonics, a next-generation SPAD sensor company spun out from the University of Edinburgh that develops cutting-edge solutions for imaging, sensing, and related applications.

His research has focused on solid-state LiDAR sensors operating in the shortwave infrared spectrum. During his time as a postdoctoral researcher at the CMOS Sensors and Systems Group, University of Edinburgh, he developed SPAD-based radiation detectors and LiDAR systems. His expertise spans low-power analogue and mixed-signal electronics, with a particular focus on single-photon detection technologies for scientific and industrial applications.

Dr Jalajakumari is a recipient of several prestigious recognitions, including a Royal Academy of Engineering Enterprise Fellowship, Scottish Enterprise company creation grants, and was a finalist in the Converge Challenge, Scotland’s premier company formation competition.

Faisal Kamran
Principal Technology Analyst at Sony
Faisal Kamran’s work spans several core areas, from biophotonics to sustainability frameworks, hyperspectral imaging, quantum technologies, sensing, displays, AR/VR, communications, and business innovation.

Current projects include developing a hyperspectral imaging camera with the highest combined spatial and spectral resolution, which addresses a major market gap for high-end R&D and exploratory work that is present across many sectors including healthcare. The camera’s ability to easily shift between different spectral regions while providing spatial information allows users not only to identify signatures but also to pinpoint their origins.

Kamran’s role is about more than technical breakthroughs; seamlessly integrating commercial viability and sustainability into the value chain is vital.
