MIM scanners

Precision Laser Scanning has introduced its compact MIM (Motor In Mirror) scanners for autonomous vehicle lidar systems. The scanners have a very low profile due to their design featuring a precision scanning motor built inside a hollow, precision polygon mirror. Four-sided MIM scanners can scan 120 degrees-wide in front of the vehicle, with the mirror aperture also being large enough to see hundreds of metres ahead. Depending on the configuration, scan rates in the KHz range are also possible with very low power consumption.

The MIM scanners are ruggedised for motor vehicle use, meaning scanning is not upset by shock or vibration and wide temperature swings do not affect performance. Start of scan detection also provides highly accurate beam positioning.

The MIM scanner design is scalable for a wide range of aperture sizes, scan angles and scan rates.
