Full agenda revealed for European medical imaging conference, MediSens

The European Medical Imaging conference, MediSens, reveals the full agenda to include inspiring speakers Dr Dimitra Darambara, Dr Phil Evans and Professor Guang-Zhong Yang.

This highly-anticipated agenda focuses on discussing a clear need to assist medical professionals in order to improve clinical outcomes, reduce dosage and control costs through advanced X-ray Imaging Systems.

Electronic imaging systems are playing an increasing role at all levels of clinical operation. From capsule endoscopy to the most advanced PET or MRI scanners, digital imaging is providing healthcare professionals with more and more information to aid with diagnosis and surgery.

However, digital imaging is still at a relative infancy in many of these applications but image sensor technology is moving apace - from mass market camera phone sensors to high end particle detectors - and patients stand to be a significant benefactor. Cancer detection is one specific area where imaging can provide life-saving support for diagnosis and treatment, and further advances in this field stand to improve patient outcomes many years into the future.

Delivered via a series of insightful presentations, interactive panel discussions, and extensive networking, all MediSens attendees will leave the event with a clearer understanding of cancer detection medical imaging technology and connections to help them maximise the benefits of this advanced technology. The event is free to attend for full time medical professionals.

This CPD accredited conference will look at the latest technologies in development, including multi modal and single photon detectors. Alongside this, topics in discussion will cover a range of sensor technologies such as EMCCD, InGaAs, CMOS and fibre-based systems, connected by photonics technologies and the requirement for high quality, reliable imaging.

Opening the conference and setting the scene on day one in London, Dr Dimitra Darambara, Team Leader of Multimodality Molecular Imaging at The Institute of Cancer Research, will take to the stage to once again inspire, stimulate and educate her audience. Her keynote session “Delivering an approach driven by clinical need” will delve into the technical and human challenges for medical imaging; understanding new techniques towards 3D quantitative imaging to ensure early and improved diagnosis and effective treatment; as well as discussing patient-specific diagnosis – precision medicine and personalised care. Dr Darambara provides a unique perspective on medical imaging, by bridging the gap between particle physics with her background at CERN and oncology with her current role at ICR.

Also on the first conference day at MediSens, delegate will enjoy the renowned Dr Phil Evans, Professor of Medical Radiation Imaging at the Centre of Vision Speech and Signal Processing, University of Surrey. Dr Evans will be presenting the latest from the PRaVDA Project, which is driving forward proton beam therapy via enhanced proton beam imaging.

Closing the MediSens Conference, we take a glimpse into the future with Professor Guang-Zhong Yang, Director & Co Founder, Hamlyn Centre of Robotic Surgery & Deputy Chairman and Institute of Global Health Innovation at Imperial College London. He will uncover the eye-opening topic of robotics use in surgery and how it is set to provide highly precise support to surgeons, and event perform operations autonomously. This session will include a deeper understanding of the imaging requirements for surgical robots; current and future computer vision specifications and how robotics will impact diagnosis and treatment.

Other exciting and high-level sessions confirmed on the MediSens agenda include; The breakthrough of digital X rays – applications in medical and beyond; the impact of digitisation on the clinical environment; an overview of research and development into molecular imaging; advances in (digital) single-photon detectors for PET; advances in CMOS Wafer scale imagers for medical imaging; How CMOS can be further leveraged to advance medical imaging and Disruptive technologies and the future of medical imaging.

Built by medical practitioners and the world’s foremost digital imaging experts, this conference addresses the need for a more integrated approach to developing medical imaging systems for clinical use. By bringing together medical professionals and the imaging technology supply chain, the audience can gain a better understanding of the challenges and capabilities of today’s advanced medical imagers.
