Diode-pumped frequency-multiplied solid state UV lasers of the US manufacturer DPSS Lasers are available from AMS Technologies.
The laser modules of 35XX series provides an output power of up to 3W at 355nm with a repetition rate of 30kHz. UV lasers can mark plastic materials, as typically used in medical technologies, via a photochemical or photo-bleaching process. Unlike marking made by NIR or IR lasers, the so called ‘cold’ marking process via a UV laser does not thermally damage the material. The marking becomes therefore a permanent part of the material and remains for the whole life and operating time of devices. Compared to traditional print processes there is no need to use inks or solvents. The UV laser beam can be focused to spot sizes of a few microns, enabling high resolution and very small sized markings.
Besides the UV laser modules AMS Technologies offers a cost-effective complete UV laser marking system (Samurai).
