SA Journal Portfolio Continues to Lead Optics Category in Total Citations and Articles

The Optical Society (OSA) is pleased to announce its full portfolio of journals again leads the Optics category in the total number of citations and total number of articles published according to the 2014 edition of the Journal Citation Reports (JCR). This edition provides a combination of impact and influence metrics from 2013 data and shows that, in total, OSA published 34 percent of all articles in the Optics category, and its journals account for 41 percent of all citations.

Additionally, OSA’s journal Advances in Optics and Photonics debuted this year on the JCR list with an Impact Factor of 9.688—the second-highest Impact Factor of any other journal in the category.  Advances in Optics and Photonics publishes comprehensive review articles as well as multimedia tutorials that cover theoretical and experimental optics, along with applications of optics and photonics technology.

OSA’s open-access journals also continue to perform well.  Biomedical Optics Express and Optical Materials Express both saw noteworthy increases in their Impact Factors over last year, rising 10 percent to 3.497 and 12 percent to 2.923, respectively.  OSA’s largest open-access journal, Optics Express, which ranks sixth in Impact Factor, jumped four spots in the total number of articles published, and is now the eighth largest journal in all of JCR’s Science Edition.  Additionally, the journal received more than 71,000 citations in 2013, an increase of 14 percent from 2012.

“OSA’s journals are known for their high-quality, high-impact research,” said Elizabeth Nolan, OSA’s deputy executive director and chief publishing officer.  “The annual JCR rankings are the leading indicator of each journal’s standing in its field. OSA’s impressive results this year exemplify our commitment to continuing to publish the best work in optics and photonics.”
